Apple takes no responsibility in exploding headphones incident

Earlier this year, a report surfaced about a woman who claimed her Beats headphones exploded during a flight. While the woman was sleeping, the headphones reportedly exploded and burned her face, hands and hair. Apple announced the reason the headphones exploded, and it’s taking no responsibility.

Apple put out a statement today blaming third-party batteries.

“Our investigation indicated the issue was caused by a third-party battery,” announced Apple in its statement. The discovery means that Apple isn’t responsible for the woman’s injuries and thus won’t have to compensate her.

The woman confessed to using third-party AAA batteries. The model of Beats headphones wasn’t revealed, only that she bought the headphones in 2014.

“The headphones don’t work without batteries, yet nowhere on the headphones – or their packaging – did it specify which brand of batteries should be used,” the woman argued.

Can’t the company at least give her AirPods?

It’s hard not to sympathize with the woman, but Apple is not in the business of handing out money. She had to know the company would fight her on every level to make sure it wasn’t responsible for the incident. Unfortunately for her, Apple figured out what caused the explosion, and she won’t be compensated.
