A new CyanogenMod 12.1 update for the OnePlus One promises to finally eliminate the handset’s touchscreen problems. Many One adopters have been plagued by the multi-touch issue since the device first went on sale.

This is actually just one of a number of updates that OnePlus has released to address the issue, but it seems the Chinese company has now finally found the root of the problem and eliminated it.

“Early signs are very encouraging for the small amount of users who have been having touchscreen issues,” reads an announcement on the official OnePlus forum. “If after the update you still face issues, our support team is on standby ready to help!”

OnePlus founder Carl Pei confirmed earlier this month that the company had found a fix for the multi-touch problem, and now users can get their hands on it. At the moment, however, the fix is available within a CyanogenMod 12.1 “nightly” release.

In other words, it’s in public testing, so anyone can download the firmware and flash it manually. It may not be completely stable, so you could run into other bugs and issues while using it — but user feedback on the OnePlus forum has been very positive so far.

If you’re not comfortable with flashing nightly firmwares, you can wait for this fix to rollout to your One handset over-the-air in a future Cyanogen OS 12 update. However, it’s unclear how long you’ll be waiting for that.
