Oppo R9S becomes the best selling Android smartphone globally: Report
While Huawei topped the charts in China selling most number of smartphone units, its close competitor Oppo with its Oppo R9s has managed to get the best selling Android smartphone to their name. Reportedly, Oppo has shipped over 8.9 million units worldwide of Oppo R9s during the quarter.
The latest report by Strategy Analytics has found Apple iPhone 7 to be the best-selling smartphone with over 21.5 million units shipped globally followed by Apple iPhone 7 Plus with 17.4 million units shipped globally. Oppo R9S at the third place is followed by Samsung Galaxy J3 and Galaxy J5 with 6.1 million units and 5 million units shipped worldwide, respectively. Apparently, Samsung Galaxy J3 sales almost doubled up from 3 million units in the corresponding quarter of the year 2016.
Neil Mawston, Executive Director at Strategy Analytics notes that Oppo still has to establish itself in the Western world but the brand is hugely popular in China. Oppo is also shipping more number of smartphone units in India which has inflated the company’s market share. In Q1 2017, Oppo owns 3 percent of the market share worldwide. The absence of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has boosted the sales of other brands. The untimely death of the ill-fated Note 7 made perfect space for Apple iPhone 7 to rise without much hindrance. The report also reflects a total of 353.3 million units of smartphones were shipped worldwide in Q1 2017. The number was 333.1 million in the Q1 2016.
