Pricing details for Hulu’s live TV service leaked

When Hulu’s live TV streaming service launches this spring, it’ll reportedly cost $39.99, a price point that was previously hinted at by Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins. The service should provide users with access to live TV and Hulu’s robust on-demand library.

A report from TechCrunch has new details on the upcoming service, which TechnoBuffalo got a brief look at during CES in January. Hulu’s service is being setup to go up against the likes of DirecTV Now, Sling TV, PlayStation Vue, and YouTube TV, all of which offers different pricing bundles and perks.

In addition to the $39.99 for live TV, Hulu will also offer a DVR add-on package that will allow subscribers to record up to 200 hours of programming, as well as fast-forwarding functionality. Unfortunately, TechCrunch’s report claims the add-on will be an extra $20 per month. That would put Hulu’s live TV service at $60 with everything.

One of the biggest perks offered to those who subscribe to the service and the DVR add-on, according to TechCrunch, is streaming on an unlimited number of devices. However, the site notes that concurrent streams outside of the home may be capped at three. Users who only opt for the $39.99 per month live TV service will still have access to limited DVR storage and features, though it will not support fast-forwarding.

If you currently have a Hulu subscription, you’ll simply have to pay the difference if you upgrade to the company’s upcoming live TV service. So, if you currently pay $11.99 per month for Hulu’s commercial-free option, you’ll have to pay roughly $22 extra for access to live TV, plus another $20 if you want the DVR add-on.

It should be arriving soon

Hulu has been teasing its live TV service for months now, and everything looked pretty polished when we saw it at CES. With a spring launch planned, the service should become available pretty soon. You have to imagine Hulu wants introduce its service sooner rather than later with so many alternatives on the market.
