Samsung Pay lands in Australia
Samsung Pay is now available in Australia, just two weeks after expanding to Europe. The service is being supported by American Express and Citibank at launch, and will be available at a wide range of participating retailers.
Samsung’s mobile payments service is just like those offered by Apple and Google, giving users the ability to purchase goods using only their smartphone. But unlike the others, Samsung Pay doesn’t rely solely on NFC.
Samsung Pay also works with Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technologies, so it’s compatible with traditional credit card strip readers.
“Today’s launch of Samsung Pay offers more than a secure and convenient way for Samsung smartphone owners to pay,” said Prasad Gokhale, Vice President, Mobile Division, Samsung Australia.
“It’s the next development for Australians who use their smartphone as the central device to live, organise and enjoy their lives.
The service is currently available on the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S7, and Galaxy S7 edge.
